Christmas is undoubtedly the most wonderful time of the year, but for us poker enjoyers, the festive season often means a lull in live poker action. While that might seem like a downside, it’s the perfect opportunity to reflect on unforgettable moments at the tables. Hustler Casino Live has recently uploaded “The Biggest Pots of the Year” to their YouTube channel. Let’s remind ourselves of this remarkable pot that occurred during “The Million Dollar Game II, Day 1” between the Legend Tom Dwan and the current player with the most profit at HCL, Peter.
Play Mediocre hands get mediocre results is a saying I like to say. When your’e Tom Dwan though any two cards will do, especially if they are suited. With a huge $1.178 million in his stack, Peter got the ball rolling with a raise from UTG with pocket Tens Steve (Cut-off, $925k, ), Dwan (BTN, $744k, ), and Charles Hook ($1.372M) in the BB with . Four players went to the flop, creating a tasty $26.5k pot.
. The bet was matched byWhat an incredible flop!
Dwan had flopped trip fours, whereas Hook & Steve had picked up a straight, and a flush draw respectively. Peter with an over pair must have been reasonably happy to not see a high card. Second to act, HCL’s biggest winner Peter bet out a third of the pot-sized bet ($8k). Drawing to the nut flush draw, Steve called. It was now on Tom to decide how to play his naked trips. He responded with a respectable raise of $36k. This was way too much for Hook to call on such a shoddy draw. With the board paired and a flush draw being out there. Knowing Dwan could be making this play loosely, this was not a time for Peter to fold an overpair. Drawing to the nut-flush Steve was not put off by the paired board and made the call. Going to the Turn there was an incredible $127k in the middle.
Hollywood could not have written it any better, what an absolute stinker of a Turn
for Dwan, If you wanted to know if Peter has a good poker face, here’s your answer he did not blink. I think it’s hard to tell with the sunglasses, let’s just say he played it cool. Peter and Hook checked it over to the flop aggressor, and as you might predict Tom came out firing. $76k was the bet Peter was faced with, what a time to be alive! Raising would be an obvious mistake (usually), he made the call, and as for Steve… he folded, which I like. The river was a complete brick
, and this had become a spot where Peter could lead out, trying to make his play look like a bad bluff in the hope of getting called with a large range of hands. As it was though, he sensed Dwan would bet again, and checked. $167k was the mouth-watering amount his opponent had bet, the question is just how high did Peter want to go. The pot was a staggering $446k, with Tom having $465k in front. The raise was $425k, meaning Tom had to call $258k to win a $871k pot.At this point, Dwan looked visibly sick, and rightly so, he could only beat a bluff. With an incredible price, and not too many hands beating him, Dwan dishearteningly made the call and received the bad news.
