Hasan Onay Wins the Australian Poker Open Main Event After Heads Up Deal

Hasan “Huss” Onay emerged victorious in the 2024 Australian Poker Open Main Event following a heads-up deal with Higor Seibel from Brazil.

Hasan Onay, widely recognized as “Huss” in the poker world, is a Sydney, Australian native known for his dual talents in engineering and poker. With notable appearances on high-stakes cash game shows like Hustler Casino Live and Live At The Bike, he had accumulated an impressive $327,391 in live tournament earnings before his victory at the APO.

Onay ranks second on the HCL leaderboard for most money won, trailing behind Tom Dwan, who holds the top position with winnings totaling $2.9 million. Notably boosted by his historic victory in a $3.1 million pot against Wesley Flan, marking the largest televised poker pot in history.

The event, which attracted 549 players, unfolded at Doltone House Western Sydney, situated at Club Marconi. Onay claimed the coveted A$284,480 prize money along with the inaugural APO Main Event title, while Seibel secured A$255,520 for his commendable performance. Despite initially trailing behind Lauchlan Swann and chip leader Georgina Vuksanovic, who eventually finished in fourth place, Onay managed to get heads-up with the chip lead.

The heads-up match concluded swiftly, with Seibel managing to double up once before both players agreed on the deal, thereby crowning Onay as the first-ever APO Main Event champion.
