They say good things come in pairs and, that seems to be the case with Fintan Hand & Benjamin Spragg. It was only just a couple of months ago that Spraggy won his first live tourney and now Fintan has followed in Spraggy’s footsteps, by bagging an UKIPT trophy of his own. Fintan & Spraggy know each other very well, both became PokerStars team Pro’s on the same day, with the dynamic Duo hosting a dual stream regularly on their own and PokerStars Twitch channel‘s respectively. It seems so fitting the two would share the Live poker limelight just months apart.
Over the course of three starting flights, a total of 220 entries were recorded, resulting in a prize pool of £211,200. Out of these entries, 33 players successfully advanced to Day 2, ensuring themselves a minimum cash prize of £1,720. At the conclusion of a relatively brief Day 2, only six players remained in the running for the championship title.
Fintan battled heads up against Daniel Gormley a player who turned pro during the Covid-19 Pandemic. Gormley previously worked in recruitment, and even had a Job working as a dealer in the very Casino that he was battling Fintan Hand for the trophy. What made Gormley’s head’s up battle more remarkable, is that it happened to be his birthday. Unfortunately for Gormley though, he did not receive that birthday luck. He did however win a nice consolation prize of £27,580.
After the win Fintan added “It’s nice whether it’s for £500, £5,000, or £44,000,” said Fintan. “And that’s my biggest score ever. I’ve not played a lot of live poker. So to win a tournament and beat my best score is fantastic. And the trophy is bloody beautiful. It’s lovely,” added Fintan.”
Gormley’s last hand was
he shoved all in from the button for close to 840,000, Fintan made the easy call with the board was a favourable run out for Fintan, his pocket Eight’s held up giving him not only the top prize of £44,200, but the coveted UKIPT Edinburgh Main Event trophy too.Place | Player | Prize |
