Bad Beat Of the Year? How about Century!

Bad Beat Of the Year? How about Century!

There is nothing wrong with a solid clickbaitable title. It is no different than the ancient practice of newspapers exaggerating headlines to sell papers. However, I feel Poker at The Lodge has undersold themselves here. Just wait until you see the hand, its a rough one alright.

Let’s dive into the clip headlined “Bad Beat of the Year” which was recently uploaded to Poker At The Lodge’s YouTube Channel. The Blinds were $1/$3 respectively.

After an ill-timed raise of $30 from Xaos ($905) (KKing of Clubs33 of Hearts, Josh ($379) in the small blind responded with a hefty 3-bet to $110 with pocket Tens 1010 of Hearts1010 of Diamonds. Four players to the flop including Brittany ($948) KKing of HeartsJJoker of Clubs, as you’d expect Xaos mucked his trash.

Flops a Set, and Jams?

It’s not every day you flop a set and lead out Jam, the circumstances for Josh doing so on a board of 77 of ClubsKKing of Spades1010 of Spades makes sense though. With $710 in the middle and only $270 left behind, there is a good chance you will get called four-handed on a wet-board (straight + Flushdraws both present). By lead-out jamming you are also underselling your hand, nobody is going to believe you’re overly strong. Next to act was Brittany. With the pot now bigger than her stack flatting was not the line she wanted to take. Her play was to Iso-jam. Both MG & Neek folded, making Josh a huge 94% favorite to win the hand.

Both players agreed to run it twice, in turn reducing the odds of Brittany scooping. Well, the first run removed two cards Brittany needed, the JJoker of Diamonds was followed by the JJoker of Spades giving her a fullhouse!

There was a gasp from the table and commentator after the QQueen of Clubs was revealed on the second board, Brit had now picked up an open-ended straight draw. Surely not, a 94% favorite to….. Losing both runs! The 99 of Spades sealed Josh’s fate, to be fair he took it well, joking “That’s my life reel right there”
