Carlos Gets There Twice on the River vs Martin at TCH

It’s true what they say, there is no justice in poker. Just Check out this hand that was played between Carlos & Martin at the Texas Card House in Dallas. It was live streamed on Texas Card House’s YouTube Channel  on the 22nd November 2023. The blinds were set at $5/$10/$25.

The action began with Carlos ($6.7k) in the +1 putting out a $50 straddle, this was met by Martin ($10.1k) in the low-jack re-straddling to $200. The table folded until it was Carlos’ turn to act. He elected to just call having woken up with a decent hand for a straddled hand, AAce of ClubsKKing of Diamonds. Danny ($21.2k) in the +2 made the call with JJoker of Diamonds88 of Diamonds. Now the action was on Martin, the player who had re-straddled. He looked down and saw he had more then a legitimate hand, pocket Queens! QQueen of ClubsQQueen of Diamonds. He raised it up to $900. Carlos with a legitimate hand of his own could have played it one of two ways. As it was he went for the conservative approach by just making the call. Danny let his suited connector’s go, and they went to the flop heads up with $2,040 in the pot.

The flop came down 44 of Diamonds55 of Diamonds22 of Hearts giving Carlos a gutshot + a backdoor King high flush draw to go with his two over cards. First to act Carlos checked it over to Martin, who bet just under half the pot with a $1,000 bet. Carlos made the call, and the pot now stood at $4,040

Surely Carlos has to fold?

The turn was the 1010 of Hearts the action was once again checked over to Martin, with the board becoming increasingly wetter, it was now Martin decided it was time for him to protect his hand, and Jammed all in. An easy fold perhaps for Carlos? well.. he had other ideas, he made the call against the odds. Maybe his opponent had the same hand? or perhaps drawing to one of the many draws that could be out there? had to be part of Carlos’ thinking. The pot stood at an incredible $17,105. Both players elected to run it twice.

The first river card revealed the 33 of Diamonds giving Carlos half of the pot. The second river? just like the first run out the second river was another three! 33 of Spades. Carlos’ questionable call had been rewarded not once but twice!. It is true what they say, there really is no justice in poker.
