Slow-playing Pocket Kings; Smart or Not?

Slow-playing pocket Kings or any other big pocket pair can be a hazardous path to navigate. In a Tuesday night Ante Game on Hustler Casino Live, Mike Nia took this approach. This is what happened:

Slow-playing Pocket Kings; The Action

The action in this hand starts pre-flop. JBOOGS found himself opening the pot in the UTG+2 position with 8♠️8♥️ to $300. Nick Vertucci put in the 3-Bet with A♠️Q♥️ to $900 to try and thin the field. Unbeknownst to him, JT came in with a cold 4-bet to $3,000 with A♣️K♣️. The action then moved to Mike Nia, who was holding K♥️K♦️. Mike decided to slow play his pocket kings and just call. JBOOGS and Nick Vertucci folded. They were heads-up to the flop in a $7,375.

Post Flop:

The flop came down Q♣️5♦️6♠️. The action was on JT and he lead $2,000 on the flop which Mike called, bringing the pot to $13,375. The turn was the A♥️ bringing an over-card to Mike’s pocket Kings and giving JT top pair, top kicker. JT continued his aggressive line and bet $5,000. Mike Nia made the call, taking us to the river with a pot of $23,375.

The river came the 2♣️, leaving JT with a pair of Aces and Mike with his Kings. JT once again led the river with a bet of $11,850 which put Mike all in and Mike decided to call bringing the total pot to $45,075. JT turned over his top pair and took down the pot.

Conclusion
