Winfred Yu is a well-known Hong Kong entrepreneur and poker player. With total live winnings of $7,710,131, he is rated fourth in the Hong Kong all-time money list. He founded the Poker Dream and formerly headed the Poker King Club in Macau and the Philippines. He is also associated with the popular Triton High Roller Series.

Winfred Yu: Early Life

Yu moved to Canada with his family from Hong Kong when he was 14 years old and studied math and statistics at university. He became addicted to poker after playing his first hand. one of the newest poker clubs “Suncity” hired him to manage poker rooms in Macau.

SunCity dared to dream large thanks to Winfred’s coaching. Faced with the challenge of making poker more popular in Asia than in the West, they contributed to the production of the Poker King feature film. Along with real-life poker pros like the legendary Johnny Chan, Winfred himself made an appearance in the 2009 comedy.

Winfred Yu’s playing career includes cashes and final tables in Asia and the US. It wasn’t until 2012 that he broke the six-figure mark. He finished second in the Asian Poker Tour (APT) Macau Main Event for more than $131,000. He immediately added two huge finishes to his live cashes after that.

Winfred Yu: Poker Career

Yu wins the Triton Poker Cyprus $75,000 Short Deck for $1,010,000 in April 2022. His third-highest score in his career, and it was the third time he cashed for seven figures.

Winfred Yu took the new Poker Dream poker tour to Manila’s Newport World Resorts in 2023. He has made its first foray into the Philippine market, with the inaugural Poker Dream event taking place at Manila’s Newport World Resorts. Yu launched it last year with events in Malaysia and Vietnam.  The Poker Dream brand is hoping to expand, with Poker Dream Manila hosting 30 tournaments over a 12-day period from April 26 to May 7. The organizers have guaranteed Php95 million in prizes for the duration of the festival. 

Winfred defeated dozens of poker players to win the White Horse Cup Short Deck Super High Roller Tournament.  The extremely competitive White Horse Cup Short Deck Super High Roller tournament is one of the tournament’s most anticipated events. With a high prize pool, it has drawn a large number of skilled poker players. With so much money on the line, it’s no surprise that Winfred Yu faced stiff competition.
