Tony Dunst: Early Life

Dunst, a sports enthusiast with a particular passion for tennis, discovered poker during his college years. While studying at the University of Milwaukee-Wisconsin, he immersed himself in online poker in 2003 under the alias “Bond18.”

His journey truly began when he traveled to Australia to compete in the esteemed Aussie Millions tournament, igniting his global poker adventure. In late 2006, Dunst made the bold decision to leave college and relocate to Shanghai, China, to pursue online poker full-time. Initially challenging due to cultural and language barriers, he successfully adapted.

Before his poker career, Dunst worked as a waiter. Having lived in various countries such as Australia, China, and Malaysia, he eventually settled in Las Vegas. Renowned for his dapper style, he’s often seen in elegant suits even during poker games. From humble beginnings playing with friends to achieving prominence in the poker world, Dunst has come a long way.

Dunst’s journey with the World Poker Tour has been amazing. He started in 2010 as a TV host and analyst after winning a big competition.

But what made Tony stand out was his role in a special part of the show called the Raw Deal. For seven seasons, he talked about important moments in poker games, showing viewers how the players think and make decisions. He made it fun and interesting while also teaching people about the game.

In 2017, when the famous commentator Mike Sexton retired after 15 years and later passed away at the age of 72 due to prostate cancer, he was the natural choice to take his place. Since then, he has been a regular commentator, providing viewers with insightful commentary and enhancing the WPT shows with his knowledge and charm.

Tony Dunst: Poker Career

Tony Dunst initiated his poker journey on August 15th, 2005. He participated in the A$450 Teams Pot Limit Hold’em event during the 2005 Victorian Poker Championships in Melbourne. Securing 6th place, he garnered $613.

Transitioning to the United States, he achieved notable success on July 3rd, 2008, by clinching 1st place in the $3,120 No Limit Hold’em event during the Bellagio Cup IV in Las Vegas, pocketing $193,720. Continuing his global poker ventures, he triumphed again on November 19th, 2013, in the Netherlands Antilles, securing 1st place in the WPT $3,500 No Limit Hold’em Main Event during the Caribbean Poker Tour – CPT St. Maarten in St. Maarten, and pocketing $145,000.

Shifting back to the United States on April 21st, 2014, he participated in the WPT $15,400 WPT World Championship – Re-Entry during the World Poker Tour – WPT World Championship/Borgata Spring Poker Open in Atlantic City, clinching 3rd place and earning $452,729. Returning to Australia on January 24th, 2016, he engaged in the APPT A$10,600 No Limit Hold’em Main Event (Event #11) during the 2016 Aussie Millions Poker Championship in Melbourne, securing 2nd place and claiming a substantial A$1,000,000, approximately $700,069.

His success continued with a 2nd place finish in the WPT $15,000 No Limit Hold’em – Baccarat Crystal WPT Tournament of Champions during the World Poker Tour – Baccarat Crystal WPT Tournament of Champions in Las Vegas on June 1st, 2019, adding $250,265 to his winnings. On July 15th, 2019, he further solidified his standing at the WSOP, securing 2nd place in the WSOP $5,000 No Limit Hold’em (Event #89) during the 50th World Series of Poker – WSOP 2019 in Las Vegas, earning $374,886.

His most recent appearance was on February 25th, 2024, when he competed internationally in the $525 No Limit Hold’em Main Event (Online Ring Event #12) during the World Series of Poker Circuit – WSOPC ONLINE Circuit, achieving 6th place and earning $8,653.

On July 7th, 2016, in the United States, he participated in the WSOP $1,000 No Limit Hold’em (Event #63) during the 47th World Series of Poker – WSOP 2016 in Las Vegas. He secured 1st position and earned $339,254. He dedicated this bracelet to his wife Sharon.
