Thien “Tim” Phan is an American professional poker player from Arcadia, California, with over $1.9 million in live tournament earnings. His best live cash of $464,110 came when he finished in 5th place at the Fifth Annual Five Star World Poker Classic in April 2007.

Thien Phan: Early Life

Tim Phan grew up learning poker from his mother, who frequently played the game. As a member of a large family with nine siblings, he was immersed in a household that ran a restaurant in Westminster, California. During his youth, Phan spent considerable time playing poker with his family and friends, which helped him develop his skills.

Eventually, Phan took his game to the Bicycle Casino. There, he began competing in high-stakes cash games, showcasing his growing expertise. He was married to his middle-school sweetheart and had three children. Consequently, Phan supported his family through his success in poker, turning his passion into a means of livelihood.

Thien Phan: Live Tournament Participation

Tim Phan recorded his first live cash in October 1998, he competed in a $50 + 5 Limit Hold’em event at the Big Poker Oktober in Los Angeles and finished 3rd, earning $3,980.

Phan’s career saw significant growth in July 2004, he achieved a notable victory at the Larry Flynt Grand Slam of Poker in Gardena. Competing in the $3,000 + 100 No Limit Hold’em Championship Final Day, he secured 1st place and earned $148,200.

Phan’s success continued in July 2005, when he participated in the World Series of Poker (WSOP) $10,000 No Limit Texas Hold’em World Championship Event. He finished 24th and received $304,680.

Later that year, in August, he played in the $5,000 + 150 WPT Main Event No Limit Hold’em at the Legends of Poker in Los Angeles, where he placed 4th and took home $291,900.

His most recent live cash happened in August 2013, Phan participated in the $300 + 45 No Limit Hold’em Deepstack event at the Legends of Poker in Los Angeles. He finished 61st and cashed $1,125.
