Steve Brecher is an American professional poker player from Reno, Nevada, with over $3 million in live tournament earnings. His best live cash of $1,025,500 came when he won at the WPT Bay 101 Shooting Star in March 2009.
He was also sponsored by the now-defunct Full Tilt Poker
He attended Stanford University, where he earned a degree in mathematics. During his college years, he discovered poker and started playing lowball at the Cameo Club in Palo Alto. After graduating, he moved to New York and even enrolled in a graduate philosophy program at Columbia University for a short period.
Steve worked in computer programming, mostly as an independent contractor, taking jobs wherever they were available. In 1987, he developed a software product for Macintosh called Suitcase, which became a retail success. This success gave him financial independence. During that time, his poker experience was limited, as he was deeply involved in the booming tech industry.
Steve Brecher’s first recorded live cash occurred in May 1994 during the Friday Night Challenge in Reno. He finished in 1st place in a $100 + 15 Hold’em, winning $3,810.
In April 2004, Steve played in a $25,000 No Limit Hold’em – Championship Final Day at the WPT Championship in Las Vegas. He finished in 2nd place and cashed $232,862.
Following this, he joined in a $9,700 + 300 No Limit Hold’em – Main Event during the United States Poker Championship in Atlantic City in October 2005. He finished in 3rd place and earned $218,250.
At the WPT Bay 101 Shooting Star in March 2009, he won his biggest live cash of $1,025,500. Steve entered in a $9,500 + 500 No Limit Hold’em and finished in 1st place.
Continuing his career, in July 2011, he participated in a $10,000 No Limit Hold’em – Main Event at the 42nd WSOP. He placed 31st and took home $242,636.
Moreover, he finished in 5th place at the WPT Borgata Poker Open in Atlantic City in September 2012, taking home $206,821.
In July 2016, Steve competed in a $5,000 No Limit Hold’em Event #59 at the 47th WSOP. He ended up in 129th place, earning $7,496.
