Steve Billirakis is an American professional poker player from Chicago, Illinois, has achieved remarkable success in live tournaments, accumulating over $2.9 million in earnings. His journey began with a major win in June 2007, when he captured his first bracelet at the 38th WSOP. Following this success, he claimed victory at the WSOPC in Hammond, in October 2008. A few years later, in October 2011, he added another notable accomplishment to his career by winning his second bracelet at the WSOPE in Cannes.
Along with his first WSOP win, he is best known for achieving this victory at the age of 21, making him the youngest gold bracelet winner in history at that time.
Born on May 23, 1986, in Chicago, Illinois, Steve grew up with his two younger brothers in a household supported by his mother and stepfather, both professional foosball players. Billirakis’ parents instilled their love for the game in their children, although travel costs meant Steve and his brothers rarely attended tournaments. One exception was the National Championships in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, where an 11-year-old Steve teamed up with a 13-year-old partner to win the 17-and-under doubles competition.
Afterward, Steve’s mother decided to leave foosball due to the time commitment and lack of financial rewards. He then focused on baseball, excelling as a catcher but struggling academically. Following his sophomore year, he was placed on academic probation and barred from playing on his high school team. Realizing that college baseball wasn’t in his future, he sought other ways to make a living.
Steve had been a skilled card player since age 12, becoming the top-rated player on Hardwood Hearts. By age 16, he started playing poker. Although his mom wasn’t thrilled about it, she agreed to put $50 on his PokerStars account. He soon turned that into $1,800 after winning a tournament, which launched his poker journey. In October 2004, he played in his first live tournament at the East Coast Poker Championships in Verona, where he finished in 7th place. Practicing constantly, Steve built his bankroll to $15,000 by January 2005, he entered his first major tournament at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure.
Steve’s first recorded live cash occurred in October 2004 during the East Coast Poker Championships in Verona. He finished in 7th place in a $100 +20 No Limit Hold’em, cashing $657.
In June 2007, Steve played in a $5,000 World Championship Mixed Hold’em at the 38th WSOP. He finished in 1st place and won $87,000.

Following this, he joined in a $5,150 No Limit Hold’em – Championship Event at the WSOPC in Hammond in October 2008. He clinched another victory and $208,885 added to his winnings.
At the 41st WSOP in June 2010, he earned $152,787. In this event, he entered in a $10,000 7 Card Stud Championship and placed 3rd.
Year later, in June 2011, he participated in a $10,000 Omaha Hi/Lo Championship at the 42nd WSOP. He finished in 3rd place and cashed $214,697.
Later in October of that year, he took part in a €5,000 + 300 Pot Limit Omaha at the WSOPE in Cannes. Steve clinched victory and won a substantial prize of $318,122.
In July 2018, he competed in a $3,000 Pot Limit Omaha – 6 Handed Event #69 at the 49th WSOP. He finished in 42nd and cashed $9,172.
Steve Billirakis has carved out an impressive legacy in professional poker, amassing over $2.9 million in tournament earnings. His rise to fame began with a record-setting win at the age of 21, making him the youngest player to capture a World Series of Poker bracelet.
