Shawn Buchanan is a Canadian professional poker player from Vancouver, British Columbia, with over $7.2 million live tournament earnings. His best live cash of $812,941 came when he finished in 2nd place at the 41st WSOP in June 2010. During his poker career, he won his first bracelet at the 50th WSOP in July 2019.

He first learned about poker at 8 when his grandmother, as he says, “tricked” him in a game of Heads Up 5 Card Draw. However, Shawn did not pursue a professional poker career until many years later, after becoming dissatisfied with his work as a landscaper. In March 2004, he entered his first live tournament at the Station Poker Classic in Regina.

Shawn Buchanan first recorded live cash occurred in March 2004 at the Station Poker Classic in Regina. He secured 16th place in a C$225 Limit Hold’em – Re buy, cashing $1,077.

In May 2007, Shawn played in a $9,700 + 300 No Limit Hold’em Championship Event during the Mandalay Bay Poker Championship in Las Vegas. He finished in 1st place and won $768,775.

At the Eighth Annual Five Star World Poker Classic in April 2010, Shawn earned a cash prize of $587,906. He joined in a $25,000 + 500 No Limit Hold’em – Championship Event and finished in 3rd place.

Later in June of that year, he participated in a $25,000 No Limit Hold’em 6 Handed at the 41st WSOP in Las Vegas. Shawn finished in 2nd place and secured his biggest live cash of $812,941.

Following this, entered in a $10,000 + 300 No Limit Hold’em – Championship Event at the WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic in December 2012. He finished in 2nd place and earned $746,502.

Fast forward to January 2018. At the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure, he took home $672,960. In this event, Shawn engaged in a $9,700 + 600 No Limit Hold’em – Main Event #7 and finished in 2nd place.

Moreover, he took part in a $800 No Limit Hold’em 6 Handed Event #76 at the 50th WSOP. He clinched his first bracelet and won $223,119.

In a recent appearance in July 2024, Shawn competed in a $1,500 No Limit Hold’em – The Closer Bracelet Event #98 at the 55th WSOP. He ended up in 202nd place, earning $3,965.
