Rusty Mandap recorded his first live cash in June 1996. He participated in a $300 + 30 Omaha Hi/Lo Split
during the California State Poker Championship in Los Angeles. He placed 2nd and cashed $7,452.

Subsequently, in September 1997, he competed in a $300 Omaha Hi/Lo at the Legends Of Poker in Los Angeles. He finished 1st and won $14,520.
