Russ Floyd made his first live tournament cash in March 2000. He competed in a $540 No Limit Hold’em event at the Annual Jack Binion World Poker Open in Tunica. Floyd finished in 9th place, earning $3,165.
In January 2001, Floyd achieved his first major victory, winning the $330 Limit Hold’em Event at the 1st Annual World Poker Challenge in Reno. He claimed 1st place and a prize of $47,267.
The following year, in January 2002, Floyd repeated his success in Reno by winning the $300 Limit Hold’em event at the World Poker Challenge, earning $24,944.
