Roy Winston is an American poker player, doctor, and founder of LaserAway from Rancho Mirage, California, with over $2.7 million in live tournament earnings. His best live cash of $1,575,280 came at the WPT Borgata Poker Open in September 2007.

In 2007, Roy officially signed with Card Player Media Representation.

Roy Winston: Early Life

He started playing poker at 11, developing a passion for the game early on. As he pursued his education, he attended The University of Chicago and The University of Pennsylvania as an undergraduate, eventually earning his MD from The Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City. In 2004, he founded LaserAway, a business he still runs.

In February 2006, he entered his first live poker tournament at the L.A. Poker Classic, finishing in 23rd place. Later, in 2012, he participated in the Legends of Poker but decided to take a break from the game afterward. During his hiatus, he focused on his medical career, becoming a senior vice president and chief clinical officer at Pacira Pharmaceuticals, a role he held until 2021. That same year, he was promoted to chief medical officer, a position he served in until 2023.

Roy Winston’s first recorded live cash occurred in February 2006 at the L.A Poker Classic. He finished in 23rd place in a $9,600 + 400 No Limit Hold’em Championship, cashing $39,859.

In July 2007, Roy entered in a $10,000 No Limit Hold’em World Championship at the 38th WSOP in Las Vegas. He ended up in 26th place, taking home $333,490.

Later that year, in September, Roy joined in a $9,700 + 300 No Limit Hold’em Championship at the WPT Borgata Poker Open. He made 1st place finish, winning his best live cash of $1,575,280.

Following this, in December 2007, Roy played in a $2,000 + 100 No Limit Hold’em at Doyle Brunson Five Diamond World Poker Classic. He finished in 1st place, winning $230,365.

Then, in April 2008, he participated in a $2,500 + 120 No Limit Hold’em at the WPT World Championship. He ended up in 2nd place, pocketing $117,630.

Moreover, in August 2011, he took part in a $10,000 + 600 No Limit Hold’em High Roller at the Merit Cyprus Classic in Kyrenia. He made 3rd place finish, claiming $52,897.

In July 2023, Roy competed in a $200 No Limit Hold’em Bankroll Builder at the Seminole Hard Rock Tampa Recurring Tournaments. He ended up in 11th place, earning $720.
