Robert Williamson III, born on November 7, 1970, in Dallas, Texas, where he still lives, is a poker player known for his bold and unpredictable style. He shines in pot-limit Omaha, where he’s made quite a name for himself.
One of his biggest highlights came during the 2002 World Series of Poker (WSOP). On May 13, he won his first bracelet by finishing first in the $5,000 Pot Limit Omaha event, walking away with an impressive $201,160. Williamson has made it to seven WSOP final tables throughout his career.
Currently, his total live earnings amount to $2,573,660, with his largest cash prize of $353,115 coming on June 26, 2005, when he placed second in another $5,000 Pot Limit Omaha event at the WSOP.
Robert is a proud graduate of Angelo State University, where he earned a B.B.A. in finance and then went on to get another B.B.A. in real estate. He’s had quite a colorful career, stepping away from real estate investing and ticket scalping. You might recognize him from “Lucky You” (2007), “Poker Den: The Big Game” (2007), or the “2009 World Series of Poker.”
Robert grew up in Houston with his three sisters, surrounded by gambling from an early age.
He married his wife, Cate Wakem-Williamson, just two months after they met. He grew up in Texas expecting to marry by his mid-twenties and have kids before turning 30. As his mid-30s approached without finding the right partner, he finally met Cate, everything fell into place quickly, and they tied the knot just two months after their first meeting.
Williamson began his poker journey on November 17, 1994, at the November Madness tournament in Lake Tahoe. There, he finished 3rd in a $225 Limit Hold’em event for $1,804 in prize money.
Subsequently, on April 30, 1999, he placed 3rd in the $2,500 Pot Limit Omaha event at the 30th World Series of Poker (WSOP), receiving $43,250.
Moreover, he achieved a significant milestone on May 13, 2002, by winning his first bracelet at the 33rd WSOP in the $5,000 Pot Limit Omaha event, taking home $201,160.
In addition, Williamson again took 3rd in the $5,000 Pot Limit Omaha at the 34th WSOP on May 8, 2003, collecting $47,400.
Later, on June 25, 2011, he finished 4th in the $2,500 Seven Card Razz event at the 42nd WSOP, earning $60,788.
On June 17, 2023, he placed 2nd in the $1,500 Big O – Five Card Pot Limit Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better 7-Handed event at the 54th WSOP for $194,814.
His latest participation as of writing was on September 5, 2024, at The Wynn Signature Series in Las Vegas. He finished 15th in a $300 No Limit Hold’em event for $679.
