Richard Ashby, also nicknamed “Chufty,” is a British professional poker player from Watford. He has amassed over $3 million in live earnings, with his highest live cash amounting to $378,027. Ashby has won 2 WSOP bracelets, first from the 2010 41st World Series of Poker and the second was from the 2024 55th WSOP. Additionally, he holds a WSOPC ring achieved in July 2023 at the WSOP International Circuit in London.
He was formerly sponsored by the now-defunct Black Belt Poker. He was also awarded as the Best All-round Player in the first annual British Poker Awards in London in September 2010.
Born on June 3rd, 1985, Richard is a former options and futures market maker based in London. He began playing poker at his local tennis club and was mentored by his father at home. His journey in poker began when he entered his first live tournament at the age of 18.
Richard Ashby first appeared in a recorded live tournament at the Grosvenor UK Open in Luton in August 2001.He won in a £100 Pot Limit 7 Card Stud event and collected $14,959.
During the Grosvenor UK Open Poker Championship in Luton in August 2005, Ashby placed first. He participated in a £500 + 25 Pot Limit Hold’em event and won $35,123.
Moving forward to October 2009, Richard secured first place in a €2,500 Poker EM – Limit 7 Card Stud event at the European Poker Championship in Baden. This win earned him $86,506.
At the 41st World Series of Poker in Las Vegas, he emerged victorious in a $1,500 Seven Card Stud event, held on June 10th, 2010. He won a cash prize of $140,467 and obtained his first WSOP bracelet.
Richard achieved his biggest live cash amounting to $378,027 at the same series on June 23rd, 2010. He engaged in a $10,000 H.O.R.S.E. Championship and secured 2nd place.
Continuing his success, Ashby won in a £1,000 + 100 Pot Limit Omaha event at the WSOP International Circuit in London in July 2023. His first-place finish earned him $19,901 and his first WSOPC Ring.
In June 2024, continuing his win streak, Ashby finished 1st in a $1,500 Limit Seven Card Stud event at the 55th WSOP in Las Vegas. He won a whopping $113,725 and his second WSOP bracelet.
His most recent participation was in July 2024. Richard cashed for $3,157 in a $1,500 Pot Limit Omaha – 6-Handed event at the 55th WSOP in Las Vegas.
On June 22nd, 2020, Richard placed 4th in a $500 + 30 Pot Limit Omaha – Mini Knockout event at the Poker Masters Online Pot Limit Omaha Series. He cashed for $2,554.
Five days later, on June 27th, 2020, Ashby competed in a $500 + 30 Pot Limit Omaha – Mini Knockout event at the same series. He finished in 3rd place and took home $2,662.
