American poker player Phil Hellmuth Jr. is known as one of the greatest players in poker history. Hellmuth has won a record 17 World Series of Poker bracelets, including the 1989 Main Event. In addition, he has earned the nickname “The Poker Brat” for his often foul-mouthed tirades about bad beats and questionable moves made against him by other players.
Phil Hellmuth grew up playing cards with his family, but it wasn’t until college that he really became interested in poker. During that time, he spent every weekend playing Texas Hold’em at the nearby casinos with his friends. He built up the money required to support his dream job after winning multiple cash games.
Despite being from Madison, Wisconsin, Hellmuth now lives in Palo Alto, California. Prior to attending college, he graduated from Madison West High School. He spent three years studying at the University of Wisconsin before deciding to leave and start a poker career.
Phil Hellmuth is one of the most popular players. With 178 cashes so far, he currently holds the record for the most World Series of Poker winnings. Additionally, he holds the record for hosting 8 World Poker Tour final tables and 69 WSOP final tables. Phil has accumulated 16 bracelets to this point, showing just how big of a fish he is in that industry. From 1989 to 2021, these were all won. He received over €1 million from WSOP Europe out of these.
