Nick Cassavetes was born on May 21, 1959, in New York City. He is the son of renowned indie actor-director John Cassavetes and Oscar-nominated actress Gena Rowlands. Cassavetes made his acting debut at the age of 11 in his father’s film Husbands (1970). Despite this early start, he did not immediately develop a strong passion for acting. He initially pursued basketball, attending Syracuse University on an athletic scholarship. However, after getting injured, he decided to shift his focus and transferred to the American Academy of Dramatic Arts to study acting.
By 1996, Cassavetes chose to delve deeper into his father’s legacy by taking on roles behind the camera. That year, he made his debut as a director and screenwriter with Unhook the Stars. Following this, he continued his acting career with roles in films such as Face/Off (1997), Life (1999), and The Astronaut’s Wife (1999).
