Lonnie Williams began his poker career in June 1992 at the $500 + $30 Seven Card Stud event during the Poker Classic in Los Angeles. He placed 10th and cashed $1,028.

Shortly after, in April 1993, he achieved 2nd place in the $2,500 Seven Card Stud event at the 24th World Series of Poker in Las Vegas, earning $64,975.
