Despite his young age, Landon has already made significant strides in the industry. Not only is he a skilled player, but he also serves as a poker instructor, live streamer, and commentator. With total live earnings of $827,277 and a best live cash of $201,529, Landon’s capability at the table is undeniable.
The pinnacle of his achievements came on March 21st, 2023, during the World Series of Poker Circuit (WSOPC) ONLINE Super Circuit. In a thrilling showdown, Tice emerged victorious in the $1,000 No Limit Hold’em High Roller – 8-Max (Online Ring Event 13). He clinched the title and earned an impressive $48,848.
Landon Tice’s journey in poker began modestly, but his diverse background in games like chess and golf laid a solid foundation. Even during high school, he explored various sports such as football and basketball. It was during college that Tice stumbled upon poker, prompted by a friend who suggested he join a $20 tournament after basketball practice. Surprisingly, he emerged victorious, realizing poker could be more than just a hobby.
He started playing online micro stakes cash games and honed his skills with guidance from a friend who excelled in mid-stakes cash games. This mentorship significantly boosted his abilities. In 2019, Tice decided to transition from a casual player to a dedicated professional, a move that caught the attention of Joe Ingram, a respected figure in the poker community.
In February 2021, Tice made headlines by announcing his plan to take on Bill Perkins, a wealthy gas trader known for his love of recreational poker, in a heads-up challenge. What made this challenge stand out was the handicap Tice offered Perkins: 9 big blinds per 100 hands (9 BB/100). Tice agreed to pay Perkins 9 BBs for every 100 hands played. He gave Perkins a significant advantage in the 20,000-hand challenge at stakes of $200/$400. This amounted to a head start of $720,000 for Perkins.
The poker community eagerly awaited the challenge, which kicked off in June with much fanfare. However, just a month into the competition, in early July, Tice shocked everyone by pulling out.
Despite being ahead by $63,720 after 4,907 hands, Tice’s decision wasn’t entirely his own. He was playing mostly with funds from his backers, keeping only a small portion of the action for himself. Backing out wasn’t solely Tice’s choice; his backers and coaches, Kevin Rabichow and Tuukka “buttonclickr” Sevänen, withdrew their support. They noticed that Tice’s skill gap with Perkins was closing as the challenge progressed. Adding to the drama, leaked Discord messages revealed Tice’s coaches expressing doubts about his poker abilities, further complicating the situation.
