Joseph Sanders first appeared in a recorded live tournament in July 2005. He joined the 36th World Series of Poker in Las Vegas. Sanders competed in a $3,000 No Limit Hold’em event and cashed for $6,550.

Following his initial success, he secured victory in a $1,000 + $80 No Limit Hold’em event. He took home a cash prize of $23,685 at the Bellagio Weekly Tournaments in Las Vegas in February 2007.
