Jose Tavares’ first live cash was recorded in May 2005 at the Heavenly Hold’em in Los Angeles. He participated in $220 Limit Hold’em, placing 14th and earned $455.
The following year, in February 2006, Tavares’ most significant victory came when he won the $1,580 No Limit Hold’em at the L.A. Poker Classic. This victory earned him an impressive $158,270—his biggest live cash to date.
In February 2007, Tavares competed at the Annual Heads-Up Championships in Compton. He participated in $10,150 No Limit Hold’em Heads Up Championships, finishing 3rd and cashed for $53,750.
