Growing up in Texas, Van Fleet later earned a degree in psychology from Texas Tech University in Lubbock. Collaborating with Eric Lynch and Jon Turner, he co-authored three poker books from 2008 to 2012 titled “Winning Poker Tournaments One Hand at a Time.”

On December 1st, 2023, WPT announced on Twitter that Jonathan Van Fleet is the newest brand ambassador for WPT.
