Jonathan Aguiar is a Portugese-American professional poker player who currently resides in Las Vegas, Nevada with over $1.6 million in live tournament earnings. His best live cash of $336,661 came when he won at the WSOPE Cannes in September 2012.
Jonathan Aguiar left poker to pursue a career in daily fantasy sports, specifically with DraftKings. After years of playing poker professionally, he became increasingly interested in DFS, especially after winning nearly $30,000 playing fantasy baseball. Drawn to the flexibility and potential of DFS, Jonathan began transitioning away from poker by 2012. One of the main reasons for his decision to leave poker was the desire for a change and a more stable lifestyle.
He had grown tired of the constant travel and time spent away from his family and girlfriend. Even after winning a bracelet at the WSOP Europe in 2012, Jonathan didn’t view it as a major achievement that would make him reconsider his decision. Instead, he was eager to explore new opportunities in DFS. His involvement with DraftKings began after he had been playing on their platform, eventually reaching out to the company. This led to a consulting role, and later a full-time position as a VIP Relationship Manager. Currently, Jonathan serves as a Director at Peer to Peer Gaming at DraftKings while still playing poker occasionally.
Jonathan Aguiar’s first recorded live cash occurred in November 2005 at the World Poker Finals in Mashantucket. He finished in 22nd place in a $500 + 65 Limit Hold’em, cashing $1,303.
In June 2008, Jonathan entered in a $1,000 No Limit Hold’em at the 39th WSOP in Las Vegas. He finished in 6th place, taking home $130,234.
Later that year, in October, Jonathan played in a $9,800 + 200 No Limit Hold’em Championship at Caesars Palace Classic in Las Vegas. He finished in 4th place, earning a prize of $206,946.
Following this, in May 2012, Jonathan participated in Event #5, the $1,500 Pot Limit Hold’em at the 43rd WSOP. He finished in 3rd place, pocketing $76,189.
Then, in September 2012, Jonathan joined in a €10,000 + 450 No Limit Hold’em – Mixed Max Event #5 at the WSOPE Cannes. He finished in 1st place, winning his best live cash of $336,661.
Moreover, in December 2012, Jonathan participated in a $10,000 + 300 No Limit Hold’em event at the WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic. He was eliminated in 7th place, securing $143,933.
In January 2023, Jonathan competed in a No Limit Hold’em at the CES 5K Freeroll in Las Vegas. He ended up in 1st place, winning $3,000.
