He began playing poker with friends in high school, engaging in small $10 home games with 10-cent, 20-cent blinds. He was instantly hooked, drawn to the mind games, which paralleled his previous passion for Starcraft. In 2004, he ventured into online poker on a small website called Bugsy’s Club. The site held $50 prize pool freeroll tournaments every hour, and he started out playing those to build his bankroll. Apart from poker, he is also a Jiu-Jitsu enthusiast.

He began his journey on June 28th, 2007, at the 2007 Wynn Casino Recurring Tournaments in Las Vegas, winning the $330 No Limit Texas Hold’em event and collecting $8,642.

Continuing his success, during The Wynn Classic in Las Vegas on March 6th, 2008. Jon claimed another title by finishing 1st in the $1,570 No Limit Hold’em event, securing an impressive $98,734.

Years later, on October 22nd, 2015, at the WPTDeepStacks – WPTDS San Diego in Oceanside, he secured 2nd place in the $1,100 No Limit Hold’em Main Event Day, adding $64,746 to his career earnings.

Jon further showcased his poker skills in recent years. On September 23rd, 2021, during the Mid-States Poker Tour – MSPT United States Poker Championship in San Diego (El Cajon), he once again finished 2nd in the $1,100 No Limit Hold’em MSPT Main Event, earning $58,238.

Most recently, at the Mid-States Poker Tour – MSPT Showdown Series Sycuan in San Diego (El Cajon) on May 2nd, 2024, Jon McGowan placed 10th in the $1,110 No Limit Hold’em MSPT Main Event, securing $5,106.

He made his debut in BLP Episode 76 on June 25th, 2024. He was seated with Gugo, Deez, and others. They engaged in a  $10/20 ($40) Pot Limit Omaha game. By the end of the game, he pocketed $8,800.
