John Pires is an American professional poker player from San Jose, California, with over $1.1 million in live tournament earnings. His best live cash of $226,690 came when he finished in 2nd place at the 32nd WSOP in April 2001. During his poker career, he secured his first bracelet at the 36th WSOP in July 2005.

John Pires’ first recorded live cash occurred in October 1996 during the Peppermill Fall Tournament in Reno. He finished in 4th place in a $100 Limit Hold’em, cashing $2,112.

During the 32nd World Series of Poker in April 2001, he finished in 2nd place. John took part in a $2,000 + 100 Texas Hold’em and secured his biggest live cash of $226,690.

In May 2006, John played in a $1,000 No Limit Hold’em during the 36th WSOP. He clinched victory and won $220,935.

Luck favored him as he won $72,780 at the L.A. Poker Classic in February 2008. John joined in a $1,000 + 65 No Limit Hold’em and also finished in 1st place.

At the World Poker Tour – Bay 101 Shooting Star in San Jose in March 2009, he won a cash prize of $150,000. John participated in a $1,900 + 100 No Limit Hold’em and finished in 1st place.

Later in November of that year, he participated in a $1,000 + 80 No Limit Hold’em – Championship at the Gold Rush in San Francisco. John clinched victory and $100,000 added to his winnings.

Most recently, in April 2019, he competed in a $600 No Limit Hold’em – Monsterstack #20 at the DeepStack Extravaganza II in Las Vegas. John placed 37th and took home $1,254.
