John Duthie: Early Life

Born on May 13, 1958, in Leeds, John Duthie grew up with a passion for poker and movies. At 32, he realized he wanted to become a film director. Starting humbly, he was content performing tasks such as fetching coffee for actors on set. Over the next five years, opportunities came his way, and by 1990, he became an assistant director.

He worked on several projects, including the murder mystery series Agatha Christie’s Poirot and the U.S. series The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles. While pursuing his poker career, he won his first live poker tournament at the Summer Tournament in London in August 1999.

Following the Vienna Spring Festival in March 2004, Duthie began thinking about what would become the European Poker Tour. He founded the EPT as online poker gained popularity, with the first tournament held in Barcelona, Spain.

The tour quickly expanded to include more destinations, fueled by players qualifying through PokerStars. After seven years as CEO, Duthie announced his resignation when his contract ended on December 31, 2011. He explained he wanted to take on new challenges and build new partnerships.

An opportunity arose in January 2017 when partypoker LIVE announced Duthie’s appointment as President, and he agreed to a five-year deal. Currently, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two sons, and in his free time, he enjoys golf, fishing, reading, and music. He also mentioned that he plans to make a feature film.
