Jim “Minneapolis” Meehan (1952-2018) was an American professional poker player from Minneapolis, Minnesota, with over $1.4 million in live tournament earnings. His best live cash of $280,100 came when he clinched his 1st bracelet at the 24th WSOP in April 2003.
Jim was born on March 19, 1952, in St. Paul. He attended the University of Minnesota, where he earned both his bachelor’s degree and his Juris Doctor. Subsequently, he practiced law for two decades. During this time, he also developed an interest in poker and became a regular player in the early days of the World Series of Poker. Unfortunately, he passed away on December 6, 2018, at the age of 66.
Jim Meehan’s first recorded live cash occurred in December 1994 during the Hall of Fame Poker Classic in Las Vegas. He finished in 4th place in a $1,500 Pot Limit Hold’em, cashing $10,080.
In May 1997, Jim played in a $3,000 Limit Hold’em at the 28th World Series of Poker in Las Vegas. He finished in 2nd place and earned $115,800.
Following this, in April 2003, he entered in a $2,000 No Limit Hold’em at the 34th WSOP. He clinched his first bracelet and won his biggest live cash of $280,100.
At the Bellagio Five-Diamond World Poker Classic in Las Vegas on December 1st, 2003, he earned a cash prize of $53,791. Jim participated in a $1,500 + 70 No Limit Hold’em and secured 3rd place.
Shortly after, on December 5th, 2003, Jim entered in a $1,500 + 70 Pot Limit Hold’em at the same event. He reached the final table by placing 2nd and took home $61,110.
During the Mirage Poker Showdown in Las Vegas in July 2004, he finished in 6th place. Jim participated in a $10,000 + 200 No Limit Hold’em – Final Day and earned $94,507.
Most recently, in October 2015, he competed in a $280 No Limit Hold’em during the Hallow Scream in Columbus. Jim placed 32nd and cashed $684.
