Jesse Martin is an American professional poker player from Northborough, Massachusetts, with over $3.2 million in live tournament earnings. His best live cash of $594,570 came when he finished in 3rd place at the 45th WSOP in June 2014. Building on his success, Jesse won two bracelets—one at the 44th WSOP in June 2013 and another at the 48th WSOP in June 2017.
His poker journey began casually when he was invited to a home game with his friends. He didn’t know much about the game but got heads-up, only to lose. That loss sparked his interest, and he went out to buy Hold’em Poker: For Advanced Players. He soon started playing with a new group of friends, including the children of poker pro Al Krux, and moved up to games with $50 buy-ins.
Aged 20, Martin started playing limit hold’em at Turning Stone Casino in New York. He did well, and by the time he graduated from Syracuse University with a degree in Information Systems Technology, he had built a bankroll of $5,000 to $6,000. Instead of getting a regular job, he moved to Boston and played at Foxwoods Casino, earning around $35 per hour playing $20-$40 limit hold’em.
A year later, Martin moved to San Diego and played at Ocean’s Eleven Casino and Commerce Casino. When online poker exploded in popularity, Martin switched to PartyPoker, where he played multiple $15-$30 limit hold’em tables at once. The games were soft, and he quickly built his bankroll to $70,000. Realizing that poker could become a serious career, he moved back to New York City, where he spent the next few years sharpening his skills and switching to no-limit hold’em.
Jesse Martin’s first recorded live cash occurred in February 2005 at the WSOPC San Diego. He finished in 14th place in a $10,000 + 200 No Limit Hold’em – Championship, cashing $23,825.
Then, in April 2007, Jesse clinched victory at the Fifth Annual Five Star World Poker Classic. He won a prize of $289,740 in a $2,500 + 120 No Limit Hold’em Event.
In the following years, Jesse made his mark by securing his first bracelet at the 44th WSOP in June 2013. He won $253,524 in Event #43, the $10,000 No Limit 2-7 Lowball.
A year later, in June 2014, he was eliminated in 3rd place at the 45th WSOP in a $50,000 The Poker Players Championship Event #46. The payout of $594,570 marked the biggest live cash of his career.
In February 2017, Jesse entered in a $10,000 No Limit Hold’em Championship – Main Event at the L.A Poker Classic. He finished in 5th place, pocketing $230,380.
Later that year, in June, he clinched another bracelet at the 48th WSOP. Jesse bagged $130,948 in Event #7, the $2,500 Limit Mixed Triple Draw Lowball.
In March 2020, Jesse competed in a $200 No Limit Hold’em – Tuesday Night at Talking Stick Resort Recurring Tournaments. He ended up in 6th place, earning $1,171.
