On August 14th, 1985, Jason Koon was born in Weston, West Virginia. He claimed that he had a challenging upbringing and that his absent father frequently beat and mistreated him. At eight, Jason Koon’s father abandoned her mother, and they moved to a mountain town to escape the chaos. Jason, who was born into poverty and pursued a college career through sports, pursued athletic scholarships.
He received a track scholarship to attend West Virginia Wesleyan College, where he accidentally made the discovery of poker. After Koon missed several months of competition due to a severe hip injury, a friend suggested Texas Hold’em to him as a diversion and pastime.
Jason had never shown an interest in playing cards, but he soon realized he had a natural talent for it. In 2006, he began playing online poker on PokerStars using the user name JAKoon1985.
After graduating from college, he discovered that he was deeply in debt due to his student loans and the costs of treating his hip injury.
Even though Jason graduated from college with a great job, something inside of him drove him to take a chance and follow his dream of becoming a professional poker player.
