Howard Andrew (1934-2021) also known as “Tahoe“, was a notable American poker player from Walnut Creek, California, with tournament earnings exceeding $1.5 million. His most significant achievement came in January 1987, when he secured second place at the Grand Prix of Poker, earning a cash prize of $250,000.

Throughout his career, Andrew earned two World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelets, in 1976, as well as one World Series of Poker Circuit (WSOPC) ring in 2008. He passed away at 86 in 2021.

Born in 1934, Andrew grew up with a strong interest in mathematics, which he pursued academically. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics from San Francisco State University. After completing his education, Andrew ventured into the business world, where he began to establish his career. During this time, he married and raised a family, ultimately becoming the father of four daughters and the grandfather of eight grandchildren.

At the age of 21, Andrew discovered his passion for poker, a game that would become a significant part of his life. He earned the nickname “Tahoe” while living in Lake Tahoe for ten years, where he dedicated himself to honing his poker skills. Howard Andrew has had a notable poker career with several key achievements. He recorded his first live cash in May 1976, he entered the 7th World Series of Poker in Las Vegas, participating in a $1,000 No Limit Hold’em event. He finished in 1st place, earning $28,000.

Following this success, in January 1987, Andrew played in the Grand Prix of Poker in Las Vegas, a $10,000 No Limit Hold’em tournament, where he finished in 2nd place and cashed $250,000.

Shortly thereafter, in February 1987, he won 1st place at Amarillo Slim’s Superbowl Of Poker, competing in a $200 No Limit Hold’em event and earning $86,400.

Continuing his competitive streak, in January 1989, Andrew placed 2nd in the $2,500 + 50 No Limit Hold’em tournament at the Super Stars of Poker in Tahoe, cashing $32,000.
