Haralabos Voulgaris: Early Life

Voulgaris’ father was an avid casino goer and took him to Las Vegas for a two-month vacation after finishing high school. He could be found betting on NBA games at the sports book corner while his father was mostly at the blackjack table.

At the age of 25, Vulgaris became very wealthy thanks to his success in the 1990s. He had a lot of success betting on the Los Angeles Lakers, who won the championship in the seasons of 1999 and 2000.

Voulgaris continued to follow his new passion when they returned to Canada, he began buying into high-stakes poker events. He began participating in live tournaments with high buy-ins. 

Haralabos Voulgaris: Poker Career & Highlights

Voulgaris has earned over $3 million in tournament winnings. He achieved this in just 19 different tournaments over a period of 14 years, and thanks to his success as a betting man, he was able to begin playing poker at high-stakes tournaments as a semi-professional.

  • The $2,500 NLHE event at the Bellagio Five-Diamond World Poker Classic in December 2003 resulted in his first-ever cash that is shown on his profile. He earned $5,540 for placing 17th.
  • In February 2005, he made his first major win. He finished in second place for a minimum of $904,122 in the $10K Main Event at the LA Poker Classic. Michael Mizrachi, a four-time WSOP gold bracelet winner, defeated him head-to-head for the championship.
  • At the EPT Monte Carlo in April 2012, Voulgaris won the €25,000 Super High Roller. He cashed €60,000 in 13th place.
  • He finished 8th in the $15,000 WPT Doyle Brunson North American Poker Classic event at the Bellagio in December 2006 and earned $135,315 for his play. 
  • He placed 3rd in the $10K NLHE Championship event at the WPT Borgata Open in September 2007 and earned $434,560.
  • In August 2019, he participated in the Triton Million, the largest poker tournament in history (at the time) with a £1.050 million buy-in, which was held in London.
  • Haralabos Voulgaris has not yet taken home a gold bracelet from the WSOP. However, he has won money in two World Series tournaments to the combined value of $1.184 million.
  • He reached the final table of the high roller $111,111 Big One for One Drop event at the 2017 World Series of Poker. Voulgaris was able to finish fourth in this all-star field. The largest single live tournament win of his career, worth $1.159 million.
