Born on May 16th, 1986, in Tucson Arizona, Garrett Adelstein grew up in the poker Moneymaker Boom era. He was valedictorian in high school and achieved a business degree from The University of Arizona, graduating Summa Cum Laude. Garrett also appeared on the show Survivor, in Cagayan, in 2014.
Adelstein began obsessing over poker in 2003, when an accountant from New Jersey, Chris Moneymaker, won the World Series of Poker Main Event as well as $2.5 million. Online poker started to become extremely popular, and Garrett was actively participating in the online scene. In an interview on Survivor, he spoke about spending all his free time studying the game while his friends went out partying. Garret’s handle online is GMAN, and he is a well-known online player.
By 2005, he was already playing high-stakes, short-handed cash games. Over the next few years, Garrett played shorthanded NLHE cash games online as well as Heads Up. After the Black Friday crash of online poker in April 2011, Garrett transitioned to live cash games and has been frequenting the green field of popular live streams since then.
Despite Garret primarily playing cash games, his HendonMob page shows cash in 4 tournaments, with each one no less than $25k. In January 2008, Garret cashed for the first time on record in a poker tournament, finishing 24th in The PokerStars Caribbean Adventure $7,800 + 200 Event for $48,000. Also, In July 2010, Garrett played in the WSOP $10,000 World Championship NLHE Event, where he finished 222nd and cashed $48,847.
In June 2011, Garrett played another WSOP event and finished 25th in the $5,000 NLHE Triple Chance Event, cashing $25,919. Once again, in July 2016, Garett appeared at the WSOP and played in the $10,000 NLHE Main Event, finishing 143rd and cashing $49,108.
In one of Garrett’s most famous moments and biggest wins, during a $100,000 cash game at Live At The Bike in 2017, he and Matt Berkey competed for a massive pot. Adelstein was dealt a pair of Aces and Berkey a pair of Kings. In the pre-flop action, Garret raised $12,000 in the 3-bet, followed by a call and raise to $27,000 from Berkey in the 4-bet, and a further raise to $62,000 from Garett in the 5-bet, which Matt called, making a total pre-flop pot of $125,000.
The flop came out with 7 hearts, K diamonds, and 5 spades, creating trips for Berkey. Garrett checked, and so did Matt. The turn came out A Hearts, making Trips for Garrett too, upon which he raised $35,000. Berkey called. The river bricked out and Garrett raised $90,000. Matt Berkey went all-in which made another $42,000 for Garett to call, which he did and Adelstein won the pot of $459,000.
Garett’s desire to be the best propelled him into the highest stakes in poker, where he’s revered as a cool, calm, and calculated player. Despite having few tournament cash, Garett’s total poker earnings, established primarily by cash games, are without a doubt north of $10 million, a testament to the level of his skill that puts him on par with the greats.
