Eugene Todd, nicknamed “Gene,” is an American professional poker player from Brooklyn, New York. He has made a significant mark in the poker world, accumulating over $2.6 million in live tournament earnings. Notably, his best live cash of $419,467 came when he finished in 2nd place at the WPT Borgata Winter Open in January 2015.
As his career progressed, Gene developed a unique linguistic style that earned him the nickname “Gene Todd Bro.” This moniker reflects his playful tendency to incorporate the word “bro” into conversations, often beginning and ending his sentences with it.
At the age of 15, Eugene Todd dropped out of school and began working as a salesman on Orchard Street in Manhattan. He held various positions at different clothing stores until he turned 21. In 1992, he passed his stockbroker test and landed a job in the finance industry. After a couple of years, he had his own team and no longer needed to make calls himself, allowing him to focus on managing existing accounts. However, he eventually experienced significant burnout.
Though he stepped back from being a broker, he continued to engage in some financing activities. During this period, Eugene and his friends frequently played poker, enjoying games like baseball, aces and eights, and follow the queen, often incorporating wild cards. He even ran poker games in Manhattan from time to time.
Between 2005 and 2009, Eugene, made a series of final tables at the World Poker Tour and World Series of Poker. Eventually, he scaled back his poker activities to focus on his family and side projects.
Todd recorded his first live cash in February 2005, he entered the $9,603 + $397 Main Event at the L.A. Poker Classic in Los Angeles, finishing 16th and cashing $36,165.
Following this, in May 2005, he participated in the $10,000 + $200 WPT No Limit Hold’em Championship at the Mirage Poker Showdown in Las Vegas, where he placed 5th and earned $137,223.
Later, in November 2005, he competed in a $5,000 + $200 No Limit Hold’em event at the World Poker Finals in Mashantucket, finishing 2nd and cashing $203,300.
In addition, Todd played in a $5,000 No Limit Hold’em event at the 37th World Series of Poker in Las Vegas in July 2006, securing 3rd place and took home $233,872.
Then, in September 2007, he participated in the $9,700 + $300 No Limit Hold’em Championship Event at the WPT Borgata Poker Open in Atlantic City, finishing 5th and taking home $325,920.
Years after, Todd made a strong return in January 2015 at the WPT Borgata Winter Open in Atlantic City, where he entered the $3,300 + $200 No Limit Hold’em event. He finished 2nd and earned $419,467.
In July 2024, he competed in the $10,000 No Limit Hold’em World Championship at the 55th World Series of Poker in Las Vegas, finishing 610th and cashing $30,000.
