Over the years, the world of high-stakes poker has produced a number of popular personalities, like Eric Persson, because of his incisive tongue, quick wit, and bravery, he became popular. Also, Persson is not only a poker player but also a successful business owner and businessman, with his company Maverick Gaming estimated to be worth $1 billion.
Eric Persson was born in 1975 in Hoquiam, Washington. He attended the University of Nevada in Las Vegas, where he took on a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology, Criminal Justice, Psychology, and Communications.
Eric knew as a child that he wanted to be involved in gaming when he grew up. He first gained recognition while competing on Live At the Bike. Now, he has also played in cash games at Hustler Casino Live, High Stakes Poker, No Gamble No Future, and the PokerGO Tour Heads-Up Showdown. At the age of 18, he began playing poker while studying. Persson has played cash games for more than 30 years and began learning the game when he was just 18 years old. In fact, it’s rumored that he used his poker winnings to help pay for his education.
From 2001 to 2003, Persson was the Director of Table Games at the Prairie Band Casino & Resort, and a few years later became the Vice President of Slot Marketing & Operations at Las Vegas Sands Corporation. He became part of Aruze Gaming in 2017 as General Manager before becoming President and COO. Around the same time, he established Maverick Gaming, which he named after his son.
When it comes to most poker players, looking at their career tournament winnings is the ideal place to start, but this is not the case with Eric Persson. He has only ever recorded two tournament scores, both in 2007, and the total value of those scores is equal to $3,677, and that’s because Eric Person does not play tournament poker, his exploits in cash games have been well documented, particularly since around 2020, when he began appearing in large televised and live-streamed poker games.
Eric Persson has had massive million-dollar swings, played in some of the biggest cash game poker hands we’ve seen on TV, and pulled off some incredible bluffs over the years. While his playing style is far from solver-approved or game theory optimal, his opponents have often rewarded his bravery with some massive folds.
By promoting himself as a big gambler, Eric promotes his Maverick Gaming brand, which he always promotes in some way in the games he plays in. Eric has built a brand around his table antics and big bets, earning him thousands of followers and fans on his social media accounts.
Eric Persson has had his fair share of big moments on some of poker’s biggest stages, and he does not shy away from the cameras, and he is without a doubt one of the most difficult opponents you could face in any high-stakes game, as he will put you to the test for all of your money whether he has it or not.
Whatever you may think of his game, Eric Persson is a poker player who is willing to back his words up with money and is never one to back down from a good challenge.
