Dominik Nitsche: Early Life

Nitsche discussed his early years in an episode of “I am High Stakes Poker” on Paul Phua’s YouTube channel. During the interview, he revealed his childhood dream of becoming a pro footballer but recognized his talent lay in mathematics. During his teenage years, he was immersed in video games and some of friends suggested he give poker a shot. He downloaded partypoker, participated in freerolls, and quickly accumulated a substantial bankroll. That’s essentially how it all began.

Nitsche started his poker journey at a young age, playing online under his mother’s name when he was only 16. The interview also revealed an early tragedy as he lost his father at just 11 years old.

Dominik Nitsche: Poker Career

Nitsche has $20 million in live tournament earnings, according to his Hendon page. He’s currently 5th place on Germany’s All Time Money List, and 40th worldwide.

In 2009, Nitsche achieved his first poker tournament victory, winning $381,030 at the Latin American Poker Tour in Mar del Plata, Argentina. In July 2012, Dominik Nitsche captured his first World Series of Poker bracelet, triumphing in the $1,000 No Limit Texas Hold’em Event in Las Vegas. His skills outlasted 4,620 players and pocketed a hefty $654,797.

Nitsche achieved significant success in poker over a short period. Three months later, Nitsche clinched the World Poker Tour Emperors Palace Poker Classic Main Event in South Africa in October. He not only earned $206,153 but also his first WPT championship. In May 2014, he claimed victory in the WSOP National Championship, earning $352,800 and his second WSOP bracelet. Nitsche became the youngest player ever to secure three WSOP bracelets by winning Event #21, a $1,000 No Limit Hold’em tournament. He held this record until 2017 when Spain’s Adrián Mateos set a new record.

In June 2016, Nitsche placed second to Fedor Holz in the Aria Super High Roller, earning $629,808. He also actively participated with the Berlin Bears in the Global Poker League, ultimately making it to the finals. In November 2017, Nitsche achieved a remarkable victory in the €111,111 High Roller for One Drop at the World Series of Poker Europe. He prevailed in a duel against Andreas Eiler, securing $4,064,026 in prize money and earning his fourth WSOP bracelet. This great feat also marked his highest live tournament earnings to date. 

Following year in 2018, Nitsche’s career soared to new heights. He started the year by winning the High Roller at partypoker MILLIONS Germany. He also secured 4th place in both Super High Roller Bowl China Macau and partypoker MILLIONS Barcelona Grand Final. Nitsche had earned approximately $3 million from just those poker tournaments. He continued his impressive run by securing a respectable 5th place in WSOPE Rozvadov, earning $654,52. 

January 2019, Nitsche again demonstrated his competence, this time in PokerStars Caribbean Adventures in the Bahamas. He secured 2nd place with $606,360 in earnings. He followed this by making the final table at the $100,000 High Roller event at the July 2019 WSOP. Despite finishing 6th place he still earned $457,772. 

Most recently, Nitsche competed in the 2023 Wynn Summer Classic $10,000 event, finishing 5th. The tournament was eventually won by Bin Weng, and Nitsche earned a respectable $700,100 for his performance.

Nitsche started his poker career by playing MTT’s online underaged. Upon reaching the legal age, he joined Full Tilt as “JustLuck1337” and PokerStars as “Bounatirou” before their closure. His first documented online wins date back to July 2007.

In September 2019, he clinched the 5th spot among 90 players in the $25,000 WCOOP 8-Max High Roller, winning $188,140 impressively. Nitsche then secured his first title in SCOOP (Spring Championship of Online Poker) in the $530 NLHE event for $82,365. This significant win enhanced his already distinguished poker record. 

Furthermore, in March 2021, he emerged victorious in the €1,100 Unibet Open Online Main Event, claiming a prize of €68,527 under the username “limingwei”.

Nitsche served as an ambassador for 888Poker from 2015, establishing a successful partnership that spanned seven years before parting ways in 2022.
