David Daneshgar is an American professional poker player from West Lake, California, and the co-founder and CEO of Whippy. He has accumulated over $2.5 million in live tournament earnings. During his poker career, he won the Fifth Annual Five Diamond World Poker Classic in December 2006. His best live cash of $625,443 came with his win at the 39th WSOP in June 2008.
Born on June 18, 1981, he attended the University of California, Berkeley, where he studied Economics and Business from 1999 to 2003. In August 2004, he entered his first live poker tournament at the Legends of Poker in Bell Gardens, where he impressively finished in 5th place. His poker career quickly took off, and he gained recognition as one of the top five poker players from 2005 to 2008. During this time, he secured significant achievements, including a notable win at the Fifth Annual Five Diamond World Poker Classic in December 2006. In June 2008, he won his first bracelet at the 39th WSOP in Las Vegas.
In 2010, David enrolled in the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, where he pursued an MBA in Entrepreneurial Studies and completed his degree in 2012. That same year, he co-founded Promenade Group and served as its Chief Revenue Officer until 2019. Following his participation in the Wynn Classic in Las Vegas in March 2019, David shifted his focus away from poker to concentrate on his new venture, Whippy, where he is currently the co-founder and CEO.
After years away from the poker scene, David returned in early 2024 to compete in the 55th WSOP, marking an exciting comeback to the game he had once dominated.
David Daneshgar’s first recorded live cash occurred in August 2004 during the Legends of Poker in Bell Gardens. He finished in 5th place in a $300 + 30 Limit Hold’em, cashing $4,185.
In March 2006, David played in a $2,500 + 100 No Limit Hold’em during the Winnin’ o’ the Green in Bell Gardens. He finished in 1st place and won $198,000.
Following this, he joined in a $9,700 + 300 No Limit Hold’em WPT Championship Event during the Legends of Poker on September 26th, 2006. He placed 7th and earned $110,910.
Shortly after, on September 13th, 2006, David entered in a €4,800 + 200 No Limit Hold’em Main Event at the EPT in Barcelona. He placed 4th and cashed $204,345.
Later in December of that year, he engaged in a $5,000 + 180 No Limit Hold’em at the Fifth Annual Five Diamond World Poker Classic. He clinched victory and bagged $330,105.
David continued his triumph by securing his first bracelet at the 39th WSOP in June 2008. He took part in a $1,500 No Limit Hold’em, winning his biggest live cash of $625,443.
In June 2024, David competed in a $1,500 No Limit Hold’em – Monster Stack Bracelet Event #38 at the 55th WSOP. He ended up in 1103rd place, earning $3,001.
