David Benefield: Early Life
David Benefield, born on May 17, 1986, was raised in Texas, USA. At 16, he started playing poker with friends, but lacked knowledge about adult stakes. He developed his skills playing in low-limit underground cash games for a few years before beginning to play online poker at the age of 18. Benefield made quick improvements while also losing interest in school. He left college to concentrate on poker. After winning the highest-stakes cash games, Benefield became known as the “Raptor” in the online poker community.

When Benefield cashed in three events at the 2008 World Series of Poker, including the main event, he made his mark on the live tournament circuit.
David earned $199,776 from participating in all the 2008 World Series of Poker events. In 2009, he finished 14th in the 40th World Series of Poker, earning $35,341. Also, he competed in the same event in 2010 and finished sixth, earning $135,718 in prize money.
He continued to play in WSOP events in 2012 and finished eighth at the WSOPE 2012 Europe in Cannes, earning him a prize of $150,035. He won $944,650 the following year after finishing eighth at the 44th World Series of Poker in Las Vegas.
