Curt Kohlberg is an American professional poker player and the President and Chief Executive Officer of Kohlberg & Company from Newton, Massachusetts. He has over $3.7 million in live tournament earnings. During his poker career, he won at the World Poker Finals in November 2002. His most notable achievement came in April 2011, when he finished in 2nd place at the at the Seminole Hard Rock Showdown, earning a remarkable $586,109.

Curt Kohlberg: Early Life

Curt Kohlberg was born in Pittsburgh but grew up in Newton, Massachusetts, as the oldest of three kids. As a child, he was good at sports, board games, and math. However, because his home life was challenging, he often looked for ways to get away for longer periods. After completing high school, Curt attended the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 1976, where he earned a degree in Business Administration and Accounting. He graduated in 1980 and then pursued a Master’s degree in International Business at the MIT Sloan School of Management, finishing in 1982.

Curt landed his first job as a Senior Vice President at Boston Company Advisors in 1989, where he worked until 1991. In 1997, Curt participated in his first tournament, finishing in 7th place at the New England Poker Classic in Mashantucket.

Kohlberg: Live Tournament Participation

Curt Kohlberg’s first recorded live cash occurred in April 1997 at the New England Poker Classic in Mashantucket. He finished in 7th place in a $500 + 30 7 Card Stud, cashing $2,130.

In November 2002, Curt played in a $1,000 + 100 7 Card Stud Event #12 at the World Poker Finals in Mashantucket. He finished in 1st place and won $32,560.

During the Festa al Lago in Las Vegas in July 2003, he clinched another victory. Curt took part in a $5,000 + 150 No Limit Hold’em – Main Event and bagged a prize of $280,960.

Continuing his career, he secured 5th place at the World Poker Finals in November 2009, earning $199,283.

Following this, in October 2010, Curt entered in a $10,000 No Limit Hold’em – Regional Championships
at the WSOP Circuit in Hammond. He finished in 4th place and took home $174,807.

At the Seminole Hard Rock Showdown in Hollywood in April 2011, Curt secured his biggest live cash of $586,109. Curt joined in a $ 9,600 + 400 No Limit Hold’em – Championship Event and claimed 2nd place.

Moreover, Curt played in a $15,000 + 400 WPT World Championship – Re Entry at the WPT Borgata Spring Poker Open in Atlantic City in April 2014. He finished in 5th place and earned $286,292.

Most recently, in June 2024, Curt competed in a $10,000 No Limit Hold’em – Seniors High Roller at the Wynn Summer Classic in Las Vegas. He placed 11th and cashed $25,888.
