Cornel Andrew Cimpan is an American professional poker player from Sacramento, California, who has achieved remarkable success in the game. He learned to play poker as a kid on the streets of Romania, which laid the foundation for his future in the sport. After moving to the United States, he transitioned from a career as a salesman to professional poker, dedicating himself to the game for many years.
During his poker career, Cimpan has accumulated over $3.9 million in live tournament earnings. His most significant achievement came in February 2009, when he finished in 1st place at the L.A. Poker Classic, earning a remarkable cash of $1,686,760. In addition to this, he has won two World Poker Tour (WPT) Championships, further solidifying his reputation in the poker community.
Today, Cimpan is not only a successful player but also a family man, as he is married and has a son and a daughter.
Cornel Cimpan recorded his first live cash in January 2004, he participated in a $1,060 Pot Limit Omaha event at the Fifth Annual Jack Binion World Poker Open in Tunica. He finished in 12th place and cashed $4,522.
Next, in October 2006, Cimpan entered the Festa Al Lago V Poker Tournament in Las Vegas, which had a buy-in of $3,120 for No Limit Hold’em. He finished in 2nd place and took home $82,095.
Later, in February 2009, he won the Main Event at the Poker Classic in Los Angeles. This event had a buy-in of $9,900 for No Limit Hold’em, and Cimpan took 1st place, earning $1,686,760.
Additionally, in November 2009, he competed in the No Limit Hold’em Championship Event at the World Poker Finals in Mashantucket. The buy-in was $9,700, and he finished in 1st place, cashing $910,058.
Following this success, in February 2015, he participated in the Parx Casino Big Stax X in Bensalem, entering a $500 No Limit Hold’em Big Stax tournament. He finished in 2nd place and earned $61,095.
In June 2015, he competed in a $3,000 No Limit Hold’em Six-Handed event at the 46th World Series of Poker in Las Vegas. Cimpan finished in 5th place and cashed $111,475.
June 2024, he entered the No Limit Hold’em Championship at the Golden Nugget Grand Poker Series in Las Vegas, with a buy-in of $600. He placed 197th and cashed $1,005.
