In the early days of his poker journey, Chris Soto dedicated himself to long trips from his home to Atlantic City. He played for eight hours and returned the same day, multiple times a week. Though extreme, his commitment, skills, and acquired funds have reaped significant, well-deserved rewards.

Despite improving his skills through extensive play and studying poker training materials, Soto felt that something was lacking in his game. To address this, he hired a coach a choice he regards as the best he ever made in his poker career. Subsequently, he immersed himself in the underground poker scene in New York City. In this inaugural event, he secured 33rd position in the $1,675 No Limit Hold’em Main Event of WSOP Circuit, claiming a prize of $4,509. Notably, in November 2015, he achieved a 3rd place finish at the $1,600 NLH Event of DeepStack Extravaganza IV. Soto on Solve For Why

Soto first met Matt Berkey while looking for a poker coach. He had reached out to Vanessa Selbst, a well-known poker player, who charged a high coaching fee. Jason Somerville, a streamer, recommended Berkey as an alternative coach who charged less. They began their coaching relationship, but Soto didn’t know much about Berkey at the time. 

Later, while playing in a New York underground poker game, Soto had a heated encounter with a fellow player. It turned out that the aggressive player was a friend of Berkey. A few months later, Soto met Berkey in person and had to apologize for the previous confrontation. Soto then eventually moved to Las Vegas to join the Solve for Why poker academy, a project that aimed to bring real-time poker games with camera coverage and lectures.

Live Cash Games

Soto’s debut in live cash games occurred during PokerGo Extras Week 4’s Friday Night Poker on October 9th, 2018. This event featured renowned poker players like Daniel Negreanu and Poker Hall of Famer Jennifer Harman. Soto concluded the show with a $2,255 loss. Two months later, he made a triumphant return during Week 12, pocketing $3,970.

Five years elapsed before Soto reemerged in the live poker scene, gracing the tables of Hustler Casino Live on five separate occasions. Of these episodes, the one that truly stood out was his performance in HCL Episode 407, which aired on March 29th, 2023. During this episode, Soto achieved his highest earnings on HCL, amassing $53,500.

Additionally, Soto also participated in two episodes of Poker Night USA in May of this year. However, he incurred a total loss of $5,250.
