She was born and raised in Romania. During her youth, she traveled often, which helped her adapt to a new environment that she believes has been valuable in her poker career. Before becoming a professional poker player, she ran a small personal shopping and styling business. After moving to New York, she got into poker by watching her male friends play online. Curious to learn more, she read poker books like Doyle Brunson’s Super/System and started playing small online games. Over time, she built a bankroll and transitioned to tournaments and cash games.
Carmel Petresco’s first recorded live cash occurred in December 2004 at the Five-Diamond World Poker Classic in Las Vegas. She finished in 9th place in a $1,000 No Limit Hold’em, cashing $2,359.
