Benjamin Yu, also known as Ben Yu, is a four-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner from the United States. He is best recognized for his abilities at mixed games, Limit Hold ’em, and Omaha, rather than No-Limit Hold ’em. He was born on January 8, 1986, in Los Angeles, California, and attended Stanford University, graduating in 2008 before embarking on a poker career.
Ben has collected significant total live earnings of $9,135,496 (at the time of writing) since the beginning of his poker career in 2008.
Yu had his first WSOP cash in the 39th World Series of Poker $1,500 Limit Hold’em – Shootout in 2008. He received $5,055 for placing 69th. Yu then concentrated on enhancing his gaming abilities, which he eventually accomplished. His first tournament victory was on August 14, 2010 at the Detox Poker Series in Las Vegas in a $350 H.O.R.S.E. tournament, where he earned $7,881. Prior to that, on June 30, 2010, he competed in the 41st World Series of Poker, where he finished second and earned his first six-figure tournament prize of $114,484.
Over the course of his poker career, Ben has won a number of tournaments. He did, however, reach the pinnacle of his career at the 46th World Series of Poker, where he won his first of four WSOP bracelets. As a result of his success, he earned a whopping $291,456. He also made the final table of the WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic that year, placing third for $607,433.
Two years later, a second WSOP bracelet for Ben Yu was won in the $10,000 Limit 2-7 Lowball Triple Draw Championship. The final table included Shaun Deeb, Nick Schulman, and Mike Matusow, to mention a few. Ben Yu took down $232,738 for his Efforts.
In 2018, Yu came up just short of winning the $25,000 Pot-Limit Omaha High Roller, which was won by Shaun Deeb. Yu had to be content with second place and $866,924 in prize money. Yu finished second, third, and fourth at the 2018 World Series of Poker before winning the $50,000 High Roller for $1,650,773, his current largest live payout.
His fourth bracelet occurred in October 2021, when he won $721,453 in prize money in Event #56: $10,000 6-Handed NLH Championship. The event drew 329 entrants, resulting in a prize fund of $3,067,925. There were 50 players who cashed in all, with only 19 returning for the bracelet quest on Day 3. Only Yu was able to take home the WSOP bracelet at the end of the tournament. Yu’s second No-Limit Hold’em bracelet, with the other two coming in Limit Hold’em and 2-7 Lowball Triple Draw.
Benjamin Yu will still be attending the WSOP and hoping to win yet another bracelet. When asked about his future aspirations in previous interviews, he stated that he does not have any definite plans for climbing the money list. He stated that he only wants to keep fighting and that he enjoys being in the poker scene. As long as he continues to compete in such tournaments, we will undoubtedly witness more of his accomplishments and milestones. Ben’s most recent tournament occurred on September 14, 2023, at the $ 10,000 + 100 No Limit Hold’em – Poker Masters #1 in PokerGO Tour. He received $ 45,600 for placing ninth.
