Ana Marquez: Early Life

Ana was born in Spain and raised in Malaga until she was 17 years old, she had a deep interest in Egyptology. She majored in Global History and Economic Development at American University in Washington, DC, with the intention of going into politics and working for the government.

In her final year of college, she became interested in poker through home games with other students and fell in love with the strategy involved in poker. Ana wrote her thesis on the history of poker, and she began playing poker in online low-stakes cash games. Resulting in her quickly becoming a winning player. She then began playing online tournaments, where her success quickly multiplied, propelling her to larger buy-in events. Ana’s poker skills have greatly improved since then.

Ana Marquez: Poker Career

Ana Marquez had already been playing live home games in addition to online cash games and tournaments. In June 2009, at the Deep Stack Extravaganza III, she made her live tournament debut as a participant. She finished 56th and took home $474.

In January 2011, she finished in the top ten of the Pokerstars Caribbean Adventure $10,000 Main Event, one spot short of the final table and one spot ahead of none other than Chris Moneymaker, who is now a fellow team member in the role she holds as ACR Ambassador.

She finished ninth and earned $3,580 at the Malaga Poker Classic in July 2011, which allowed her to make the final table. She participated at the European Poker Tour event in Barcelona the following year (2012) and won $4,091 there.
