Alexandros Kolonias, nicknamed “mexican222,” is a Greek athlete, professional backgammon and poker player. He originates from Volos, Greece, but is now based in London. Born on April 28th, 1986, Alex has amassed total earnings exceeding $4.4 million. His highest live cash stands at $1,260,917, achieved during the 2019 WSOPE in Rozvadov. He also earned the coveted WSOP golden bracelet. Alexandros is also second on the Greek All Time Money List.
Kolonias was born and raised in Volos, Greece, and now lives in London. He was a junior tennis player and earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education and Sports with a specialization in tennis. Apart from sports, he developed an interest in strategic games like Backgammon, influenced by his father. Introduced to poker through his Backgammon circle, Kolonias began studying the game through books and frequenting the local casino daily to improve his skills.
In March 2011, Kolonias recorded his first live appearance in the Greek Poker Cup I in Loutraki. He joined the €1,000 + 100 No Limit Hold’em Main Event and obtained 3rd place with a cash prize of $34,692.
Alexandros secured 2nd place in EPT in Monte Carlo in May 2016. He competed in a €25,000 + 750 NLHE High Roller winning a whopping $930,117.
On the other hand, Kolonias appeared in EPT in August 2016 participating in a €48,500 + 1,500 NLHE Super High Roller 8 Handed. He finished 4th place earning a cash prize of $529,863.
