Alan Schein, known as “The Cockroach,” is an American professional poker player residing in North Miami, Florida. He has total live tournament earnings of $1.6 million, with his best live cash of $440,200 coming in September 2007 when he won the WPT Borgata Poker Open in Atlantic City. Schein has also earned two WSOP Circuit rings.
Alan Schein, originally from Philadelphia, built a successful career in the financial planning industry before transitioning to poker. A pioneer in the 401(k) investment sector, he owned a securities firm and a mortgage business, both of which he eventually sold. After moving to Boca Raton, Florida, at age 40, Schein grew bored with retirement and founded a call center business, which expanded to over 10,000 employees at its peak.
During the early 2000s poker boom, Schein explored starting an online poker site but abandoned the plan due to legal concerns. This marked his initial entry into the world of poker, where he began playing live tournaments and finding early success.
Alan Schein recorded his first live cash in November 2003, finishing 16th in the $540 Limit Hold’em event at the 2003 Showdown at the Sands in Atlantic City. He earned $705.
Later that same month, Schein placed 9th in the $10,200 NLH – Main Event at the 2003 Showdown at the Sands in Atlantic City, earning $19,400.
In October 2007, Schein won the $1,570 NLH event at the Caesars Palace Classic in Las Vegas, taking 1st place and earning $120,867.
In July 2017, Schein finished 3rd in the $25,000 NLH – High Roller Aria High Roller 65 in Las Vegas, earning $238,000. He also placed 3rd in the $25,000 NLH – High Roller Aria High Roller 72, earning $90,000.
In August 2020, Schein competed in the $8,000 NLH Asia Championship at the WSOP Online on GGPoker, finishing 4th and earning $167,237.
Schein’s best live cash came in September 2007 when he won the $5,200 NLH event at the WPT Borgata Poker Open in Atlantic City, claiming 1st place and earning $440,200.
In his most recent participation, in July 2023, Schein competed in the $1,100 NLH – Deep Stack Seniors 50+ (Event 17) at the SHRPO in Hollywood, finishing 5th and earning $6,001.
